  2. "HP had already become a bit mediocre at the time and was in process of going downhill after the founders left."

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At the time there was corporate stability. HP was growing rapidly and increasingly owned the computer market. The company had some good management ideas (many of which were actually practiced: Management by Walking Around; Open Doors Policy; Stick with Core Values, etc.

    Cons

HP was converting from super-mini computers to printers and desktops. They didn't seem to have a very coherent strategy. History has shown they were successful at converting the technologies and sales have been largely good. All reports are that the famous "HP Way" - a management, people, and business culture philosophy - has pretty much disappeared.

    Advice to Management

It appears that HP has become pretty hard-hearted and that management no longer listens to its people - who used to be among the very best in the business and engineering worlds. Quit hiring glamour-personality CEO's and get back to the core values of the founders.
