I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

The biggest pro is the ability to work with alot of different clients

Cons

No real career path. LImited opportunities for growth. Get in good with your management and your life is easy, be anything less than a favorite child and your life will be miserable.

Advice to Management

Stop the 'promote who you know' approach for opportunities.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Challenging work. Good benefits. Local site management is very supportive of eomployees. Ability to participate in diversity groups (Employee Resource Groups - ERG's) on company time.

    Cons

No job security. This last round of cuts appears to be run by HR with no input allowed by senior leaders, up to and including senior vice presidents. It doesn't matter what skills the business needs to be successful. If an employee is US based and has 10+ years experience, they are strong candidates for the layoff pool. A senior leader that tried to push back on HR because of critical business needs wound up getting layed off himself. It's impossible to stay focused on your job when you worry moment to moment if you'll still have a job.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your managers - if they say they need resources (people, budget) to deliver on the business goals, THEY AREN'T KIDDING. Give them what they need and the business will turn around. Continue to gut organizations based soley on where people work & experience level will finish the job of killing HP.
