Pros

The people at HP are creative, brilliant, honest and focused on delivering the best customer experience. Managers are well prepared to lead and manage 'people' versus headcount. Performance evaluations are useful and there's never a surprise at the end of the year. Managers gice prompt feedback and use the very few reward tools in their power to recognize excellent performance.

Cons

Even top performers have not seen more than standard of living raises in many years (4+ years). It's not unusual to have 4 different managers in under 16 months. HP reorganizes at least twice a year. HP people are getting a bit worn down by the layoffs.

Advice to Management

Examine the compensation strategy for your Top Performers. Can you really keep them working for you with the current comp strategy?

    Pros

Big Company , Good Name, depending on the team you are on, good opportunities to work world wide. Lots of access to cutting edge in technology and smart IT people. Lots of diversity within the company.

    Cons

Salary, Salary, Promotions very tough, raises are horrible. If you are not Management you better have a high salary. Not much room for upward growth. Very bureaucratic. You work alot with overseas workers and communication issues make getting projects complete a very difficult process. Especially if you are trying to develop something.

    Advice to Management

.Promote more from within, Give more chances to lower level employees. Challenge your workers don't settle for average. Make HR better like it was when you were Compaq. Help your employees grow.

    Pros

Flexible hours, ability to work from home full-time, salary

    Cons

Job cuts have left those remaining overburdened with work

    Advice to Management

Employee morale in my organization is extremely low. We're all feeling the after-effects of layoffs. In addition to our already heavy work-loads, many of us have had to take-on the workloads of those who left the company on top. We're also faced with extreme budget cuts and are constantly trying to do less with more. Add to this the pressure to cut costs by offshoring anything and everything possible and that makes for one stressful work environment.
