Pros

Flexibility to work at home (some groups, not all).
SMART people.
Many hobby/sports/outside work groups formed.
Employee discounts.

Cons

Management does not empower its employees.
Slow to get the job done; too much red tape.
Few team players due to dog-eat-dog mentality.
Too many meetings, with no decisions made.
Employees are rated against each other.
Salaries/bonuses are small or non-existent.

Advice to Management

Empower your SMART employees and allow for humaness.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible location/ work hours- most job positions are given the option of working remotely as long as the job is getting done. In a company of this size, opportunities for advancement or career changes come up more often.

    Cons

Previous leadership regimes cut research and development to the bone and tried to "buy" technology through acquisitions rather than by developing organically. As a result HP is behind the tech curve and now struggling to re-invent itself. Morale is improving but still quite low.

    Advice to Management

Come up with a growth strategy and stick to it. Avoid further acquisitions until all the recent buys have been fully assimilated and stabilized.
