I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Colleagues respect your time.
Awards for excellent work.
Work from home.

Cons

Red tape leads to additional work, re-work and at times loss of business.
New ideas take longer to be institutionalized or are lost in the milieu of bureaucracy and complacency.

Advice to Management

Remove bureaucracy at all levels. Other organizations are leaner and have quick approvals and processes in place that will help business.

    Pros

    Great talent, great people to work with. Depending on the team and the technology, it can be a fun place to work.

    Cons

    Too much middle management, to big of a company, unable to react to the market, underpaid. Unable to decide what it wants to focus on. Annual reviews needs improvement and little to no guidance on how to position oneself for success. Little to no work life balance.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees, practice what you preach. Provide a real career path to your employees without it being in Management. There is too much of a buddy system, if you not part of it the path of success is limited. Evaluated purely based on numbers and not work ethic.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    HP manager respect their team members and support them. The team members support across functions and give their best. HP is a respected company, and backs up its products.

    Cons

    Accounting uses older technologies. The is little to no growth opportunities visible. Much of the institutional memory has been lost in down sizing.

    Advice to Management

    Build more from within. Prove you respect the contributors that made HP great. Communicate vision to the entire teams.
