Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good people who work hard and care.

Cons

Outsourcing, management bonus focus and cost cutting seems to drive all decisions, rather than taking care of employees and encouraging creativity.

Advice to Management

Too highly paid CEO's and upper management is what ruined HP. Board of Directors need to overhaul the whole top level structure. Too many CEO's doing a bad job and walking away with millions. Why not give the actual workers incentive rewards to do a good job and make the company profitable?

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with smart people and very large, interesting clients. Working from home office when not on customer site.

    Cons

Internal management and work life balance. Always pressure to bill way beyond a reasonable amount for work life balance. Difficult to use internal systems to get knowledge and training independently. Hyper control of some costs (like travel itineraries) even when there is an undue burden on employee who is travelling 95% of the time.

    Advice to Management

Management is very hands off. Need more professional development and oversite into engagements that are not going well or have issues.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are amazing people, who put up with a lot, working at HP. The products are good and the atmosphere is quite good, in certain departments.

    Cons

Unbelievable awful decisions about direction.......When will Meg Whitman feel like a part of the company and take responsibility for these decisions instead of blaming others. Leo Apotheker almost put the company out of business. How could he be hired? How did the Autonomy fiasco happen?

    Advice to Management

Leverage the fact that HP has the broadest array of products and services in the industry and move toward a solution company versus a "widget/commodity" seller.
