I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

Pros

You can pretty much do whatever you want because your managers are rarely around and there are no repercussions for not doing your work. It took one woman approximately 6 months of not ever showing up to the office to get fired.

Cons

There is no reward for trying. They lie to you about bonuses. Only the people at the top get promotions or bonuses. Nobody is very happy. Your boss will never be around. Communication is terrible. There is absolutely no training. You either figure it out or you don't.

Advice to Management

Come to the office most days of the week (at least.). Learn the word "thank you". Don't lie to your employees about bonuses. Have a minutia of transparency.

People, many different locations to work from, diversity valued, product portfolio is large and varied, can move within company to a new job fairly easily, some work from home options

    Cons

HP is currently seeing some erosion to its historical bottom line profits, mobile devices encroaching on PC share and HP to date has not entered this market successfully, finance jobs being outsourced to other countries making advancement in finance career tougher

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company with many resources. Great Co-Workers. Adequate Product Training, but could be improved.

    Cons

Way below Market Compensation, especially for a company based in California. This is a terrible situation which needs to be immediately addressed to retain and attract quality employees. A complete joke for a company of this size who is a perceived industry leader and captain of innovation. Upper Management instability with a complete lack of Vision and Common Sense. The HP Board needs to be replaced along with all upper Management.

    Advice to Management

Look back and see what HP was all about when the company was started and make any attempt to implement the "real" HP Way and it's principles created by founders Bill and Dave.
