I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Lots of older folk, learn a lot from experienced engineers that you would not otherwise gain at a smaller company. It allowed me to vault ahead of my peers by learning things I otherwise would not have been given the chance to

Cons

People go here to die. There is no sense of unity or culture really anywhere within the company. The energy and motivation that come from other younger companies are clearly missing here.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved the entrepreneural policy that the management at HP follows. I did not experience any "micro" management. Rather management treats you with respect and gains your willingess to do good work for them in return. The employees are in general seem less stressed even when the work load is heavy and are open to knowlege sharing. The pay scale is above average as compared to other IT shops in the same region.

    Cons

Somewhat less organized. The employees seem to connect equally well virtually so face-to-face interactions are lacking. This is the case with some groups only and not with all groups.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on getting your team more engaged and connected with each other. Hire more perm rather than contract employees.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big name and a big brand are nice. Easy to explain who your employer is at social gatherings.

    Cons

You're one of about 350,000 and that becomes pretty evident. There is a lot of red tape to do anything outside the box. A lot of products rushed to market. Work/Life balance is what you make of it - but it's easy to be swept away into an always on lifestyle.
