I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Entry level positions for recent college graduates
Relaxed environment
Intelligent and competent coworkers

Cons

Pay is low compared to similar positions at other locations
Have to stay for many years to advance
Upper management not in tune with employees
Structured processes may limit out of the box thinkers

Advice to Management

Grow and retain talent by offering higher pay and more incentives to do well. Offer more training and development for employees. Don't place so much emphasis on obtaining certain certifications in order to move up.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Interesting, challenging work on big contracts
    - Prestigious Fortune 10 firm

    Cons

    - Get the money coming in the door; salaries are average and raises infrequent
    - How happy you are depends largely on whom you report to (which can change frequently)
    - Process-bound, multiple frustrations with poor internal tools
    - Slaves to share market price drives frequent work-force reductions and little true long-term investment. Employees are asked to work a lot of overtime in order to cut labor costs.
    - Culture and values are just PR. Statements about how important employees are is just hype; you'll be a walking barcode.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very friendly towards work-life balance initiatives that help support working employees with their flexible schedules and on the job or offsite training goals.

    Cons

You must address work-life balance issues to senior management for proper resolution. This is not always the best route when you have already submitted your concerns to your direct manager but was most effective for expedited resolution.

    Advice to Management

MBWA "management by walking around" should be key practice of all management team
