I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great workforce, teamwork and respect for the individual. Management is working to create an environment where the employee feels valued and fairly rewarded. Meg Whitman is working hard to turn around the company.

Cons

Many of their core businesses are in a state of change. PC's sales are slowing due to mobile devices, printing is slowing due to online storage, and their investment in R&D slowed under Mark Hurd. This all will create churn over the next several years.

Advice to Management

Stay the course on the turnaround plan, Meg.

    Pros

    Career opportunities are abundant; caliber of talent is generally high; very entrepreneurial culture that can be empowering. It is a very good place to work, build relationships, and deliver some of the most complex and valuable technology to the world.

    Cons

    History of major strategic blunders; rotating leadership; bureaucratic; declining revenues. The pace of change is intimidating: i have had countless supervisors and organizational adjustments.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on succession planning/grooming for future leadership roles; agility without a vision is a recipe for chaos.

    Pros

    Some of the best people you will ever work with.
    Great processes
    The best technology and people who understand ít.

    Cons

    Too many layers of bureaucracy.
    Too many acquisitions, too expensive.
    Poor choice of customers/accounts.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the PM's and field engineers.
    Stand up to clients.
    Get much better clarity in contact deliverables.
    Get focused on core business or split the company into smaller business units.
