Approves of CEO

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard (More than 8 years)

Pros

Company has compete range of products and services to provide end to end solutions for enterprises. Many excellent people. CEO is leading the company to drive value across business units.

Cons

Many barriers to developing integrated solutions across business units. Lots of bureaucracy to develop new solutions. Pay increase have been very low to non-existent over the past few years.

Advice to Management

Break down the barriers between business units.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Given the decades of layoffs, the remaining worker bees are uniformly great people and very productive, willing to go the extra mile to get things done.

First-level managers are usually good, and supportive of their teams.

Lots of opportunity to move around if you understand the system

    Cons

Throughout the Carly, Hurd, and Leo regimes there's been very poor definition of the go to market strategy and even poorer focus on providing inspirational leadership to the troops.

HP used to lead in innovation (hence the byline "invent") but now seems to just be a technology and market follower. No real market leadership anymore. The company is just surviving by the flywheel momentum from past days.

Employees are not considered assets but rather as line item expenses to be cast aside at the slightest provocation when times are hard. Management seems to keep the "yes men" and discard the more experienced (and often higher paid) employees who think outside the box.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to remember that a successful company is made up of inspired and engaged employees who create innovative products and solutions that meet real customer business needs. Somehow, HP seems to have forgotten the basics and they've been suffering the consequences as a result of not treating their people as valued assets.
