I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

You work with great people and get to play with really cool technology, Overall compared to other companies it is a great place to work.

Cons

Original HP culture diluted by acquisitions. HP product discounts are not very good. Lose focus on what the end users really want. Poor acquisitions

Advice to Management

Listen to your customers more and have product marketing get better feedback so things like the HP Touchpad do not happen again. Give us better product discounts so we can be ambassadors of the great technology we produce.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people. Easily the most professional and hard-working employees I've had the pleasure to work with. HP is also good at emphasizing work/life balance at the corporate level (although many managers don't follow the lead)

    Cons

The employees are always looking over their shoulders waiting to get laid off. The raises have not been good for a decade, but the bonuses can be good. Executives talk about recognition plans, but anything money-related never trickles down to the department level. Since Meg joined the company, shares are good and stockholders are happy, but it is clear that accountants are running the company. Long time employees are disappearing and being replaced with newer employees. Benefits are mediocre and seem to get worse every year. No training is budgeted, no mentoring is available.

    Advice to Management

Allow decisions to be made at a lower level, let business executives run their businesses without obstructions and red tape. Give the employees raises--don't just rely on bonuses. It makes them feel more stable and appreciated

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Facilities are great. People are laid back and dress is casual.

    Cons

Not many opportunities in the way of climbing the proverbial "ladder"
