I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great company, benefits and work environment! The digital press division is and was a fast growing market space to be in and I really enjoyed the people I worked with and the environment. Good work life balance, ability to work from home a couple days a week and good management.

Cons

Very large company and you can be affected by large lay offs at any time! If the business unit you are in is not doing well you have to keep your eyes open to opportunities in other parts of the business.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and continue to make HP a great place to work and thrive!

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    HP does provide lots of vacation time and is great about illness. Many peple work from home. The company seems to be stable.

    Cons

    Managers are islands of their own rules. Shifts can be changed with no notice or care of impact to personal lives and families. Every team/group gets handled by a very small set of people and they decide all the rules for that particular team.

    Advice to Management

    Care more about your players. Dont let your team leads hide what is really going on from you. Talk to your people so you know how they feel. NEVER let a team lead do a yearly review.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The benefits are great and very hard to beat, unlimited sick days and very affordable insurance. However, that is were the good stuff ends.

    Cons

    The company seems to take an approach to management that rewards those who belittle their employees and promotes an atmosphere of fear and discontent. Many of managers even attempt to do the same to each other, and engage in strong arm match in front of employees.

    Advice to Management

    Fire those managers that have created this environment of fear and hostility, and provide training that will encourage an environment of cooperation and respect. You might be able retain employees for longer then just a couple of months.
