I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Work from home, Team atmosphere, Goal oriented, Strategic planning and initiative, Large Market Share, great resource availability, competitive pay rates.

Cons

Off shoring of jobs to India and other places means layoffs for US employees.
Little to no recognition of work achieved beyond immediate supervisors.

Advice to Management

Recognize the value of on shore engineers and their contributions, there is more to customer satisfaction than dollars.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing co-workers and managers (lower level - managers and directors). HP has a knack for hiring wonderful people. The company is very flexible and I work from home 100%, though that will change in the coming year.

    Cons

Senior management has no clue what they're doing. They lead by trial and error, never giving their changes enough time to gain traction.
Layoffs are constant, perks have been significantly reduced and employee morale is therefore low.
HP does not pay competitively and it is difficult to get any significant raises, even as an employee who is consistently rated highly. I know of administrative assistants at other companies who have higher salaries than me!

    Advice to Management

Pick a path and stick with it longer than 6 months. HP is a huge company and turnaround will take time. You guys are like impatient toddler's. And pay your people competitively.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Reasonable salary and good benefits. Company has good name overall. Starting to reinvest in R&D

    Cons

Too much management and not enough workers. Culture used to be great but over the past decade it has decayed. Carly started it and Hurd finished it. Reduction of innovation has been devastating

    Advice to Management

    Cut the executive management staff
