It is important to understand the value you provide and be able to document it.

Advice to Management

The cloud looks like the wave of the future as well as services.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Its a great place to hide behind every roadblock you encounter. Your manager will not know enough about your job to call you out on it. Generally not a pressure cooker environment.

    Cons

ES and the company as a whole are doing poorly. As a result, the company is focusing on 'cost control'. As Jim Cramer said recently (Dec '13) on Mad Money when discussing HP, that generally means its "Not a good time to be an employee". I personally have averaged less than 2% salary increase over the past 4 years while still int he early stages of my career with solid performance reviews. Going above and beyond your 'job code' gets you nowhere. Company is heavily burdened by internal processes, though they are making an effort to correct.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor

    Pros

Lots of overtime. Challenging. Work with people worldwide.

    Cons

The minute earnings for HP look a little down they start terminating people. Last in first out no matter how well you do.

    Advice to Management

Employees or contingent workers are giving you there best. It not a good thing to treat them like a simple financial number that can be discarded the minute management makes a few bad decisions.
