I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

The money is above average.

Cons

Contractors/Consultants are treated like second-class citizens. There is no office space for contractors who sit at tables and HP values are only upheld for full time employees.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Able to telecommute from home and at least I have a job

    Cons

Lack if salary compensation for high performers while over compensating those known to be poor performers.

    Advice to Management

Review the job performances and very large salary discrepancies among employees on the same team and adjust accordingly. It seems that management is so engulfed with trying to turn HP around that they have failed to notice the most simple changes that could make a huge difference. Also, there are a large number of high performing employees getting ready to walk away from HP due to lack of appreciation and lack of compensation while you have thousands of poor or low performing individuals collecting large paychecks and contributing very little. Continuing this path is the surest way to fail.
