    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work with people from many different countries

    Cons

Focused on cost cutting rather than innovation. Focused on buying established but failing companies (Compaq, EDS, 3com, Autonomy) squandering investments rather than nurturing innovation in young new companies. In US focused on being Texas based company ( lower costs) rather than being founder of Silicon Valley ( where there are higher costs but higher rewards) Lost out on mobility, and cloud. No innovation since inkjet. Large because it bought failing companies (like Computer Associates did) rather than growth through innovation

    Advice to Management

Understand tech innovation(creating the new) rather than operations (streamlining existing services). Build staff to make decisions through company rather than only have a top down / military style management. Understand Packard's HP Way.
