I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great employees, very smart people, some flexibility in when you work your hours if you get your job done (see WW comment below), people doing the day-to-day work still retain an incredible passion for doing the right thing for the business

Cons

Management's behaviors do not align with their words, creating enormous amounts of distrust. Shift in management actions is resulting in short-term decisions with short-term payoffs with disregard for med-long term thinking. I've witnessed this being discussed openly on multiple occasions and then simply ignored. Definitely a worldwide company; be prepared to be on 6 am calls with Europe and 9 pm calls with India if people you work with are located there.

Advice to Management

Need to improve trust in order to get this back to being a great company. If there is bad news, talk about it openly - employees can handle it. Saying everything is good and laying people off creates incredible amounts of distrust.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to gain experience in a VERY narrow band of information, but you will know it up, down and sideways and nothing more.

    Cons

There are books written about how bad it is to work here: They've been rated the #1 worst IT company in America to work for a number of years. You pay them to cover your medical benefits and they take the write off. ALL their benefits are like that.

    Advice to Management

I had a number of friends and co workers abruptly come to the realization that anything less than 50 hours a week is considered an underperformer.
