I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great place to make a difference and impact to millions of customers. Lots of great people with deep experience. Great place to learn how big companies operate.

Cons

Company is huuuge. Left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing - although that is getting better with meg. Lots of layers so need to address a heavily matrixed org.

Advice to Management

Make it a fun place to work again. Invest in events and the 'cheap' stuff that start ups have like free drinks, snacks. Also pay competitively.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, good managers who are mentored into being even better managers, good compensation and great benefits, many resources available to employees.

    Cons

Big company so you can get lost in the fray unless you've got a supportive manager who is willing to guide you. If you don't become one of the 'chosen' it becomes more difficult to advance even if you're a great employee.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on appreciating seasoned employees. Increase visibility of training opportunities to new employees.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

HP managers are more concerned about getting the job done rather than sitting in your cube. They are very flexible if an employee needs/wants to work remote. There are a lot of very good and decent people who work for HP.

    Cons

Promotions usually don't come with a raise and the performance bonus vs raise structure limits an employees earning potential for years. Salaries are not competitive and talented people will often seek better opportunities with other companies after a few years. The best way to get a raise at HP is to quit and come back a few years later.
