No opinion of CEO

Pros

Flexibility, respect i am given by my boss, the autonomy to manage and set goals for my people, work life balance is tough at the minute but i own it and am supported. Great colleagues and willingness from people to do the right thing

Cons

Very top down approach, people are more worried about how things look than the substance of what they do.
Some of the "old" spirit of the HP way is gone - but we live in a new world today.

Advice to Management

need to get back to some of the core values of the organisation - don't spin things if they are bad its better to give it straight - people can take it!

    Pros

The pay is very competitive for executives (perhaps too high). You could have a very good year or know the right people or impress the right people in Palo Alto and you can move up very quickly.

    Cons

Senior managers do not value non-executive employees at all. What matters in HP is how you can impress senior leaders. Cultural diversity is not valued and employee diversity is not valued.

    Advice to Management

Deal with inadequate senior leaders (i.e., EVPs and SVPs) who are not leading their business groups effectively, rather than place blame on the VP, Director, and Manager population.

    Pros

If you hold out there's a good vacation package. Some people are great. There is more innovation in some areas than others.

    Cons

You can work really hard, get a high rating, promotions, etc, - and NEVER see a pay increase at HP. Instead, they give you pay cuts.

Even during weeks when the stock was at $54 they're laying off people so the the execs can make their numbers and bring up their bonuses.

The only thing executive management at HP cares about is this quarter and the next and how that affects their bonuses. They don't see out any farther than that.

Randy Mott thinks we're all as skilled and talented as Wal-mart checkers and treats us about as well as his origin company treats its employees - the ones he hasn't fired.

Survivors' guilt is dwindling when you realize you're now doing the work of four people.

If you haven't been there long, they MAKE you use all of your vacation when they want you to - Dec. site closure. So, if you've been there less than 5 years, you pretty much have zero vacation. Not my personal problem, but it definitely drags the culture way down.

Only the "Yes Men" are doing well - there is a strong aversion to the truth.

    Advice to Management

Quit putting a bow on a pile of sh!t and calling it a gift. Respect your employees. Either put them on the pay bands you have or get rid of the pay bands - it's hypocritical to pretend you award performance.
