Pros

Although we did lose one week of paid time off in favor of "unlimited" sick leave I do still get 4 weeks off per year after 10+ years at the company. The people that work here are highly skilled and for the most part great to work with. It's a very professional place to work, which is good for women particularly.

Cons

Every year more work gets moved to India, Costa Rica, Singapore, Brazil, and other countries. It is harder and harder to get high quality products released with all the time differences and low-bandwidth communication. It used to be enjoyable working with colleagues to create products, but now it is really a drag.

Advice to Management

Maximizing profit to the extreme at the expense of employee satisfaction will likely eventually backfire.

    Pros

Very decent facilities. Beautiful campus. World class analytical lab. An extremely unique oasis for very expensive, high risk research. It was a pleasure working there.

    Cons

There was simply too little work for the number of engineers that were working there. The quality of research that was taking place was decent, but I definitely felt that we were playing for too long in the sandbox.

    Advice to Management

There should be more rigorous technical review of the results being published by the engineers. Or at the least, more emphasis on integration of the technologies into something useful. Doing R&D at the time I was there was too 'anything goes'.

    Pros

Great people to work with, brightest still coming into the company, still doing great work. We still have great customers to engage with, keeps the work fresh. New products & technology to learn and support and integrate into customer solutions.

    Cons

Anual bonus is at the whim of your manager, but he or she will only have $x in a pool to divide among all the elegible employees that report to them. So there is never enough to give the entire team a good bonus.

    Advice to Management

Just go back to the one percentage for all employees based on the anual pay. Sound, fair, logical and it works, VP's will loose the 300% bonus but IC's might see 10% once and a while.
