Pros

Large, global company with diverse job opportunities around the world.
Shareholder and customer focused.
Very talented employees.
The company will allow job sharing opportunties.

Cons

Benefits are no longer competitive compared to the industry. Cost cutting has gone to far with permanently reducing employees salaries by 5-10%, stock purchase plan with no purchase discount or matching, medical plans that are 2X more expensive for the employees than other silicon valley companies, 401K company matching is now discretionary by the company.

No work/life balance. Employees are required to work very long hours due to workforce reductions and globalizing jobs while the workload continues to grow. Employee morale is very low and employees don't feel valued. Many extremely qualified employees are leaving the company.

Limited investment in innovation.

Advice to Management

Senior management (VP & Higher) manages in a very directive & aggressive style. Tops down management style leading with fear and intimidation. Creativity & innovation are stiffled. Senior management is driven by greed due to their huge variable compensation packages. Bring back the HP Way and the executive leadership that share similar values such as trust, respect, integrity, and innovation that once made HP a great place to work and where employees are valued.

    Pros

People, both customers and other employees.
Flexibility - a lot of self responsibility is placed on the individual.
Job interest - some freedom to select the types of projects that are worked on.

    Cons

Big company culture. decisions made without any though of the effect on individuals.
Performance review - its a joke one minute local management are justifying moving everyone down because they need to normalize the results, the next teh CEO is stating it doesnt happen and shouldn;t if it does.
Pay - It stinks. The only people who are happy are those in their late 40s - 50s who have been there 20+ years or those who joined from another company a fair way up the scale. If you joined as a junior member of staff you are most likely way down the scale and will never move up it.

    Advice to Management

Pay people as they progress in their careers. If you dont people will leave even though they dont want to. Os the HP way really to force people out when they perform and are valued ?
