I worked at Hilton full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great downtown location. Easy commute. Great pay. Free lunches. Free uniforms.

Cons

Communication is shut down on all levels. There's almost no security. Theft is rampant. There aren't enough employee lockers. Supplies are always low. Laundry is always behind in delivery to the floors.

Advice to Management

High more security guards. Install more employee lockers. Hire more housekeeping supervisors. Purchase more linen and towels (and stop doing laundry for smaller downtown hotels. They end up with your linens.) Hold the directors accountable for their departments.

I worked at Hilton part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big savings on drive time, gas expense, work clothes and food cost. Many agents can build their own schedule within their core hours, including scheduling your own vacation days if hours are available. You can do lots of travel at very nice discounts at Hilton Brand properties. Most Development Coaches do a great job helping you to meet performance goals set on a monthly basis. Opportunity to make a lot of incentive money if you give the sales pitch for Hilton Grand Vacations, at the end of each call session.

    Cons

With an expectation to also provide service to the guest, the computer system has a flaw that takes away a sales conversion based on total calls and total sales, which hurts your incentive and your performance goals. Agents have no control over the types of calls they receive and sometimes it felt like when you were doing very well for the month, all of a sudden your types of calls changed and you could see your sales drop and in turn your commission drop too. You are "teathered" to a headset during your entire shift with the exception of breaks which are scheduled for you. So you become very sedentary and you can start to feel isolated since you are not in a office environment.

    Advice to Management

There is a high turnover in the Call Center and it would be a good idea to address it. You could save a lot of expense of training if you listen to your seasoned employees and figure out why this is. The system has too many flaws and mainly the calls that come in as service should not count against your sales conversion. Have a prompt added for guest to push for service vs a reservation and have a separate desk for those calls. Those who speak up in the chat room are chastised for it. Development coaches should have off site meetings with their teams occasionally for those who work far from the center rather than just seeing them once or twice a year when they come on site for training. Value the employees who take care of the calls as much as the Hotels they service and the shareholders!!
