Pros

A job well done never goes unrecognized. Management is available and communicative. Benefits are better than many other companies offer.

Cons

No ability for flex (i.e., 9/80 work weeks); no casual Friday - not that should be a deciding factor

    Pros

Excellent training. Easy access to senior management. Great feedback to help you develop. Fun yet professional place to work. You get to work with quite a few very bright and talented people.

    Cons

Upper or executive management positions rarely open up due to low turn over and delayed retirements. Apart from that there are no glaring areas of "dislike".

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in training and retaining young talent. Encourage greater training opportunities across departments.

    Pros

Hines is a stable organization with a strong engineering base which is supported institutionally. As such, it provides the advanced learning tools to ensure the longevity of and prosperity to its engineers.

I have great admiration for what Jeff and his father have achieved.

    Cons

Similar support is not as prevalent to non-engineering employees although the company is making strides, albeit weak ones, to redress this issue.

Organization overall is not women-friendly. Although has a few positioned in prominent spots they do not hold positions of power in the core business (engineering and construction management).

    Women are undervalued.

Management style tends to lean towards autocratic.

    Advice to Management

Read some books by Jack Welch or Tom Peters and then ask how is Hines different from their model and is Hines as productive as companies who adopt their models. Obtain candid feedback from employees to understand what is going on in Houston, Washington, DC and elsewhere.
