I have been working at Holiday Inn Express part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Willing to work with my schedule - I never had to work when I had classes.
Reasonable requests for time off
Great colleagues, interesting guests

Cons

As a front desk employee you really are a jack-of-all-trades. 30 percent of my shift is spent doing laundry, or folding it, which is the most time consuming part. Night audit has further duties, and because it is "slow" you're expected to pick up the slack of all the other shifts. So, if the people before you didn't do any laundry or clean or prepare key cards, you'll have to do it yourself.

Advice to Management

Pretend like you care. You are setting a terrible example and all of your employees are unmotivated and lazy. Unless you do your share, why should we do ours?

    Pros

    Great discounts on hotel rooms.
    You get to interact with people.
    Sometimes you get kick backs for recommending restaurants, tour companies, and services.

    Cons

    No holidays off.
    Your hours may vary seasonally.
    The pay is awful.
    The management doesn't care about too much other than doing just enough to get by.

    Advice to Management

    Get organized.
    Train your Staff.
    Develop some standards and enforce them.
    Care 100% of the time, not just when site inspectors are watching or corporate is breathing down your neck about your sub par performance.
