    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Excellence in engineering core competency makes it a pleasure to work along side such great engineers each day. Technology and products are very complex, challenging even the best each day.

    Cons

    Honeywell needs to end the Performance Improvement Plan nine block assessment, unless it is really justified. Too many great engineers are rated in ouside L that is unwarrented. The GE model of 10 percent in bottom L just does not fit this organization.

    Advice to Management

    De-emphasize the nine block PIP and instead emphasize engineering excellence. Honeywell has a gold mine of great engineers. We need the culture to align with excellence in engineering.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    * Stable work.
    * Good pay for engineers.
    * Company has good potential only if management would get out of the way.
    * If you know the right people, career advancement opportunities can be had.

    Cons

    * No telecommuting.
    * Work 42 hours; get paid for 40 -- not a true salaried job either.
    * Tier 3 management lacks focus and vision. More effort put into buzzwords and process than product.
    * Vacation doesn't roll over.
    * Senior management can be found policing employees to make sure they use handrails, ensuring staff meets safety goals with silly "near miss" program, and with radar guns in the parking lot.
    * Technology incompetent managers.
    * HTSI COS has documented the path to excellence is through "changing employee behavior", very top down and oppressive.
    * Hardware-centric leadership forces 1980s process and manufacturing principles on software developers.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of 5S. You did it wrong. You need to gut Tier 2 and Tier 3 staff too. They're doing it wrong, and at times without any integrity. One 90% award fee earned in the last 10 years. But somehow, HTSI keeps plowing ahead with the same broken processes and lame managers.
