I have been working at Honeywell full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Large well-established company with solid processes and procedures that help delineate roles and responsibilities and accountability. Strong focus on six sigma and lean. Strong CEO that has helped Honeywell through the weak economy and maintain if not gain in most the industries it is in compared to the last time Honeywell went through a recession. Solid 401K program and one of the few companies that still has a pension.

Cons

Performance management was brought over from GE and helped at first to eliminate most of the weak performers, but now it causes solid contributors to potentially be managed out. Benefits have been cut severely especially medical. Compensation is average and it seems like merit raises are more based on your ability to "play the game" than on results.

Advice to Management

Performance management could become an issue if we continue to manage out valued contributors. Also as a new generation of employees becomes part of our work force we need to understand and value their emphasis on work/life balance and make changes in our own expectations if needed.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Well recognized and reputed brand name.
    2. Very stable- having global presence across the industry makes it less vulnerable to economy fluctuations.
    3. Follows strong engineering process like six sigma.
    4. Strong and long running product lines provides a long term career possibilties - Not a hire and fire company.

    Cons

    1. The domain in which honeywell operates makes its technology requirements very limited so new technology updation is very slow.
    2. Staying more than 3 years can make anyone stagnent and obsalete technically.
    3. Although strong process exists most of the times it is never followed and projected as process is followed.
    4. No flexible timings, mandatory login time but exit time is never accounted.
    5. Huge heirachy like Govt establishments and lot of "boss" culture.
    6. Very very slow growth and absolutely no travel opportunities at all.
    7. Too much politics everywhere and senior managers spend most of their time in this activty alone.
    8. Minimal benifits outside salary and only coffe and tea are not charged.
    9. Very Poor work life balance for lower ladder people and individual targetting for even very small errors.
    10. Most of the policies like domain or team change policy( although advertised for every one) is applicable for managerial category, and if any engineer tries to change the team he would end up nowhere loosing his career in the organization as it requires his reporting manager approval.
    11. Very weak HR team, absolutely no powers at all apart from conducting exit intrviews, chips eating and rope pulling competition.
    12. Compensation package is way much lower than market standards.
    13. Most of the time senior management is totally blank on happenings in projects so real problems faced by engineers and real issues never gets escalated increaasing burden without any mitigation plans.

    Advice to Management

    1. Need to ensure that process is followed correctly in programs as outlined.
    2. Strong HR team.
    3. Better tracking for mid level managers.
    4. More clear career road map that can add value rather than just designation changes.
