I worked at Honeywell full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Flexibility, established process, big enough to move into different roles to reduce boredom, internal opportunity to learn. Technical path exists parallel to management for those who want to pursue their area of expertise instead of management.

Cons

merit raises are routinely cancelled due to economic conditions or partial furloughs implemented. Morale fluxuates within different departments. Benefits reduced year to year.

Advice to Management

Hire for talent. Hire for innovation. Spend time with the individuals who show the most promise. Be consistent. Reduce the overhead; too many processes.

I worked at Honeywell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company worked hard to get you nice ergonomic desks - you pick out your chair, mouse, they set up everything ergonomically correct. They had a nice (but small) gym & even offered training. Picnic tables outside were nice when the weather was warm. Close to lake - escaped to walk around the lake when I couldn't take it anymore. Did offer 3 sigma training.

    Cons

Contract I worked required 42 hrs/week for 40 hrs pay. Even if you didn't have work to do, you were required to put in your "green" time. No pay for travel time but you could accumulate green time if you travelled. Ridiculous work that made no sense - busy work that didn't add value. Cube farm had street names so you could find your way around. No real break room. Weird safety briefings required daily - if you didn't hold the handrails on the stairs you could get fired! Many good sub-contractors laid off and treated badly.

    Advice to Management

Don't badmouth you sub-contractors who helped win the contracts for you. Don't allow workers to badmouth co-workers. Think of better ways to get the job done in an effective manner vs, just creating so much fluff that the govt will not have time to review it all.
