I worked at Horizon Well Logging - Oklahoma full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The initial training provided is very helpful in the data entry portion of the job as most of the computer tasks are job and software specific. This reduces headaches in the field for the first couple of weeks.

    Cons

The training involves absolutely no geology but luckily they are currently only hiring people with a BS or higher in geology. The pay during initial training and the 1st month after is 6 dollars an hour with no overtime compensation or per diem. After that the pay starts out at 12 dollars an hour with no overtime compensation and this is including per diem. This is the lowest oil patch pay in the industry. They provide company housing but I have lived in cleaner places during college. Then get this they charge you money to live there. Not only do they pay their workers next to nothing but then they take some of the money back acting as slum lords. The HGDP program is a scam for them to pay their workers less. No one has ever graduated and it is advertised as being one year long. They have people who have slaved 84 hours a week all year long with no predictable time off for 14 to 16 months who have not graduated from the training program and are still being paid as a trainee. They drill into you the corporate core values but one is personal responsibility. Management is above the core values as they take no responsibility for paying their workers slave wages. The living conditions on site are laughable. Truly laughable all the other contractors and drillers literally laugh at the trailers Horizon provides for its workers to live and work in.

    Advice to Management

Shape up and properly compensate your employees.
