I worked at House of Ruth Maryland full-time

Pros

Passionate coworkers, good mission, casual atmosphere, best benefits available, very rewarding work

Cons

lack of opportunities for professional development, silo mentality, top town hierarchy leaves little room to grow, older building and office equipment

Advice to Management

Get rid of the caste system found in older organizations and restructure to be more egalitarian and inclusive. Your younger talent is going to be the future of the organization and should be groomed to take on more responsibilities. This goes for all older organizations in general, not just House of Ruth.

I worked at House of Ruth Maryland full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I met a lot of friendly, genuinely nice people that worked there. None of them were in management.

    Cons

Upper Management was verbally abusive. Having never worked with the population, fresh out of college, they expected me to understand the dynamics of working with that particular population. While I was provided with training, the upper management didn't reflect the empathy I would've expected considering the type of work that we did on a daily basis. Mentally exhausting stuff for someone who went to school and was hired for admin work. One manager even threw an item to the ground when she'd realized I'd made a mistake.

    Advice to Management

    Sit down, be humble.
