I have been working at Houston Community College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great job security. Good facilities. Good benefits. Pay is good after you have been there a while.

    Cons

Many students are unmotivated. (Motivating them is part of the job - let them know you care - this works with some students but not with many.)

    Advice to Management

Make skills related programs more admirable than they are. Some students are not good candidates for academic program, but choose them anyhow - because some folks see them as more admirable - leading to students not succeeding.

I worked at Houston Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The diversity of the students is amazing and enriching. Working with a caring Chair is a pleasure.

    Cons

To consider the choice of teaching as an adjunct a secured full or part time job must exist. Unless the professor is satisfied with 10 years of no promotions, no security or academic growth other than what he/she would hustle.

    Advice to Management

The students are paying top money for their education. They will have a full time faculty over nine adjuncts who have had no time paid nor resources to prepare for them what they are paying for.
