I worked at IATA full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Reasonably good salary, but nothing special

Cons

Many of the good managers have left the company. The quality (and knowledge) of some of the senior managers is very poor particularly in the MACs division. Very low staff morale driven by a culture of fear.

Advice to Management

Uproot the corporate culture. Stop talking about decency / values etc and actually live that way.

I worked at IATA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great people to work with who are very knowledgeable and want to make a difference
    Travel opportunities
Good pay but don't expect to get a pay rise

    Cons

Incompetent senior management who are promoted to their positions because of who they know not what they can do.
Management by fear and blame culture
Senior management ride on the hard work of employees and take credit for everything that works well and the successes

    Advice to Management

With the New DG in place many hoped it would be the opportunity to clear out some of the senior management who bring nothing to the business and see it as a gravy train. Talk about the importance of Culture and ethics but pay scant regard to either......

I have been working at IATA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Better pay, travel facilities, other benefits. Many in the industry still regard the Association as influential

    Cons

No Industry expertise. Senior Management not knowledgeable. A lot was expected of the new DG but nothing much has changed except the jargon and rhetoric. Too many undeserving people have had their jobs protected under the project Blue Skies.

    Advice to Management

Apparently IATA is going to rid itself of some its despicable past very soon, perhaps its time to reverse some of evil policies of that era. E.g. at the moment those who were fired in the past during IATA's numerous "purges" cannot be re-employed. This should be changed immediately. Some of them may still qualify for existing or forthcoming job vacancies (whether they would want to come back or not may be another issue) and should be allowed to apply. Some of the lost industry expertise could thus be brought back.
