I worked at IBM for more than a year

    Pros

Good overall benefits especially the 401k contribution. Methodical and structured approach to business and planning gives some indication of order. The work level can be manageable and overall the work environment is pretty flexible.

    Cons

History of moving many high tech positions offshore reduces long term job security in US Frugal to the point of being absurd at times. Pay was decent at first but pay raises were very small. Very bureaucratic. Many levels of approvals and management required to make things happen.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a greater emphasis on understanding value versus just cost. IBM can create it's own little world with it's own realities. Most companies don't live in that world. It would be good to get out more and see what is going on in the broader market. Remote management is good to a point. Sometimes being part of a team means being present.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Use to be a great company which supported and invested in their employees and clients. Work balance and autonomy was fantastic if you achieved.

    Cons

Ageism is rife. Retrenching majority of “older” people for many years who are on six figures. Replacing with young cheap labour. All about the bottom line for CEO and shareholders.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of CEO - has lost focus - people are very important to the success of a company.
