I worked at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great perks, great people at IBM
They treat their interns very nicely and are very approachable and relational

    Cons

Culture could be a little more exciting, not too many young people working at IBM
Projects were not too exciting, but you must realize the scope of the work that they do

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good name recognition
    Good benefits and learning opportunities
    Great people to work with

    Cons

They are laying off people to help their stock price. I heard employee count will go from 100,000 to 30,000 over the next two years. Customers suffer because of lack of employee resources and services on their contract is bad.
I got laid off by a manager. That manager was incompetent and laid off employees to cover that manager's weakness. That manager is still there. Managers can have affairs with their employees. It will be known by upper management, and those managers still work there. That is unexcusable. It seems if you are a manager, you are untouchable.
I still have a lot of friends who work there and don't like it. They feel that they will enventually be laid off.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to review how competent their managers are. By laying off more and more employees, the stock price will probably go up but customer service will suffer.
