I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Stable finance, employee can get relatively secure job in current economic environment.
Has many business units, employee has opportunities to transfer between different business unit or job roles.

Cons

Cost saving is the top priority of company. No computer mouse is provided. Stationery application is restricted. Too many restrictions to claim medical insurance. There is all most no instructor led training to R&D. Housing fund is paid with the lowest line in some cities.

Some mean managers. Some SH managers commanded R&D employees in another city to work in SH by travelling between cities daily without paying any per diem. And train class of restricted, taxi is not allowed, and cannot get off before 17:00, etc. The single trip between cities about about 3 hours. One of employee tried to negotiate with the manager, then got fired.

The internal service is poor. Some employee's expense claim finally got paid after almost 3 months. It takes weeks to communicate with HRs.

It is selfish irresponsible company. Employee must sign one unfair "WAIVER AND GENERAL RELEASE" document before participating any IBM club activities. In that document, all the responsibilities of IBM and its partner is waived. Employee has to pay for any loss of IBM and its partner but has no right to get compensation from IBM and its partner even they causes employee's damage.

Advice to Management

Pay a little care to your employees.

I worked at IBM as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of freedom, higher management will help you get stuff done. Research laboratories are also a big plus to collaborate with.

    Cons

In times of economic downturns, they also take in less new people and try to work leaner. For example they standardised the car park throughout the entire company, no more free choice. In a Belgian company this is sometimes perceived as a con.

    Advice to Management

Keep the extreme blue program going!
