I worked at IBM as a contractor (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great framework for those starting their career off. You will receive a lot of training, and the company is very structured and organized.

Cons

Company is very bottom line and this affects raises, promotions, and layoffs. Sometimes things can take a really long time because there is too much process and bureaucracy. It is really hard to get a good promotion.

Advice to Management

Don't be too process focuses. Sometimes things just have to get done.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great management and co-workers, come and go whenever for short breaks, no punch out time cards, hard work and long hours do pay off with recognition, free coffee all day, nice office with great views of Mississippi River, privacy rooms available for small meetings, nice conference rooms for team meetings, great desk set-up, intense but well-worth classes which offer free vouchers to obtain licenses upon completion.

    Cons

Managers do change often but not really a con- this is a way to experience a 'fresh' outlook on team building which I suspect is why management does frequently change. If you are not one for adjustments or changes, this type of work force is not for you.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid company, good benefits, decent opportunity to grow and change positions, fairly solid in job security. Work from home culture is nice for flexibility.

    Cons

You may lose your mind if you need to be around people and co-workers. You have to trouble shoot on your own because alot of the support is outsourced. Everything is very disjointed, there are 12 different places that are concidered the 'main source to find information'. Unless you change roles in you are looking at little to no pay increase.
