Pros

Ginni is working to put the spark back in the company and to make IBM more relevant. I hope that she succeeds.

Cons

- Burdensome procedures and policies slows down decision making and execution.
- Bottom line growth has been at the expense of employee benefits and raises.
- Career advancement options not understood, for those who don't live near/work at IBM headquarters
- Employee morale is at a low in many parts of IBM

Advice to Management

With a new CEO, it looks like the company is moving in the right direction, but early to tell.

    Pros

They're not going to go out of business any time soon. There are some very very smart people there, and they might talk to you once in a while. They have nice buildings, but you won't get to work in one.

    Cons

They are frickketty *HUGE*. Your project will get lost in the shuffle. The divisions of the company are perpetually in conflict. Your project will get cancelled when executives change, which happens every year or so. They have more bureaucracy and internal processes than the federal government. IBMers often spend years in miserable corners of the company. Pretty much *everyone* there is miserable much of the time though.

    Advice to Management

Most of you (management) should cease to be management.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    The company is big.
    There are many different opportunities.
If you are aggressive, you can shine.
If you want to relax, there are such positions for you.

    Cons

    The company is big.
There are many process that you may not like.
There are all different kinds of managers.
If you are lucky to work for one you like, it is good. But there are many that may disappoint you.
However, the company is big, so you can move around easily.
