Doesn't Recommend
No opinion of CEO

Pros

Opportunity to network with many consultants
Competetive Salary
Good Benefits

Cons

Poor bonus program
They recruit surplus amount of consultants when there is market is good and through you out ruthlessly when there is no need due to market conditions.

Advice to Management

Don't recruit too many consultants when you know that you are going to layoff them for sure at some point of time.

    Pros

Place for discovering innovation. Plenty of opportunities to move within STG for good-fit. Many opportunities to learn new technologies and contribute to the same.

    Cons

STG's primary business model is to make and sell hardware products - high end servers/data storage/mid range server/storage. This makes it hard to change course midway.
STG is not a good fit for computer science professionals (e.g. BS or MS in CS).

    Advice to Management

Should either create opportunities and/or openings for those who are already in STG to (by finding a niche and supporting software based solutions) and are software professionals, OR, identify a pipeline to transition such people into Software Group. Because, STG as it is employs such professionals but does not offer appropriate career growth opportunities for them (long term).

    Pros

IBM is a good place to work. There is good deal of respect for employees except when it comes to the resource actions. In many parts of the company you get the opportunity to change jobs every 2-3 years and that helped maintain my interest and keep me challenged. Also, if you get a manager that you don't like very well you can be pretty sure that you or they will move before too long.

    Cons

The lack of promotions. You need to want to work a lot of hours - this isn't a 9-5 place.

    Advice to Management

You might have considered "taking the higher road" and not had such huge resource actions and moving so many jobs overseas at a time when the US economy was tanking... You should also review your downsizing policies. In the actions of 2009, the policies allowed a number of top performers go.
