I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You will work with some of the top engineers in our industry from all over the world. It is a diverse company so there are opportunity to do many different things without having to look outside of the company.

    Cons

Upper management is solely focused on meeting an unrealistic stock target. Consequently, as soon as any revenue target is missed they resort to chopping senior engineers and their salary and bring in junior engineers. Unfortunately, since the senior people are gone it is difficult to train so many new people and work of the remaining senior people suffer because they have to pick up the slack as mentors or take on more duties. It is an unsustainable situation and I don't think they can make this work. Also, give the recognition to the people who have earned it not the ones who are the loudest.

    Advice to Management

Take some time to listen to your first line managers and their teams. Pushing for that 2015 target will not work and the way you believe it will and the stock prices will reflect this in the end. But I suppose they are only concerned with their own salaries/bonuses to really care.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working at number 1 in enterprise IT sector, joining ~400k IBMers community worldwide, acquiring an outstanding experience, very fast career growth is enabled

    Cons

The company is huge overall with many processes implemented, which often makes decission making inflexible; some people find the job too much demanding and complain on salary

    Advice to Management

Processes should be re-engineered and administrative effort reduced by suitable automation; the strategic 2015 EPS objective to be reconsidered
