I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Big company, so lots of opportunities - if you know the right people.
Work-from-home policy.
Can't think of any other pros...

Cons

Absurd focus on cutting expenses. Air travel in coach class, regardless of flight time or distance. However, 3rd line managers get booked in business class. How's that for morale?
Everyone is only waiting for the next layoff to occur, so not much serious work is being done.

Advice to Management

You are so far removed from the trenches you have no idea how things are done. I can see IBM going the way of HP: a company sliding into oblivion; it may take more time in IBM's case, but it will get to the bottom one day.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I remember in my first month thinking, "this is the most 'moral' place I've ever worked." People generally did the right thing for customers and each other; poor, destructive leaders are "managed out of the business." /// Amazing training opportunities.

    Cons

Non-client facing people in support roles, working remotely (home offices) sometimes act less accountable than one would like.

    Advice to Management

Speed up planning & execution cycles.

  2. "Changed projects too often to truely establish becoming a true expert in any particular project."

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company name and size, great work environment from the point of the people. Casual dress code, lunch times, and allowance to run errands if needed.

    Cons

Projects change every couple years, cannot really become true expert at a single project.
Always expected to learn new technologies then not too understanding when learning curve comes into play. Personal reviews every 6 months.
