Pros

There is so much opportunity to provide value and make an impact since there is just so much work to go around.

Cons

There are many areas significantly understaffed given the business commitments made through senior management and through some of the poor budgeting processes. This means that there's too much work and often people are asked to sacrifice work-life balance. At the same time, employees have more control than some realize since there is a respect for quality work and personal boundaries if one sets them.

Advice to Management

Listen to the people in your organization... and not just the ones that make the most noise.

    Pros

Availability of information resources to help me do my job better.

    Cons

Politically correct (PC) version of diversity that lets "respect for the diversity group" trump "respect for the individual." I know of Christians who hold Bible studies on IBM property but who are very careful about advertising their participation. I know of people who would like to speak objectively about the gay agenda but can't for fear of being branded homophobes.

    Advice to Management

Work on developing business value instead of just managing costs. Work on a shift toward neutrality with respect to the gay agenda as a way of fostering diversity.

    Pros

IBM is a large company with a lot of great people to work with. The IBM community is diverse, with locations around the world with people of all races, creeds, religions and beliefs. With all of this diversity, I think IBM has the ability to do anything it wants. The talent pool seems endless and the opportunities that arise for its employees are there if you are motivated to go after them.

Often when you come out of college, you think you know what you want to do, but once you start doing that job, you find that it just doesn't suit you. IBM has many many disciplines that allow you to morph your career should you desire a change.

    Cons

It is a large company, and this isn't for everyone. Still, I believe if you are motivated, the large size shouldn't be a problem.

    Advice to Management

Be more accessible to employees. More site visits and walking the halls keeps people motivated.
