Pros

Work from home is a flexible benefit. Traveling is also not an issue, allows for personal schedule setting and flexibility.

Cons

Long string of communications to get things completed. With working at home also comes a down side. Seems like you can always take work home with you.

Advice to Management

At this time, I have no advice. Maybe a better way to search for the needed information or clearer documentation of processes.

    Pros

IBM has an incredible range of talented and gifted individuals, who collectively make what IBM is today. There is a lot of knowledge and experience within the organisation, and its a great place to learn if one is starting their career.

    Cons

The management has become a typical 'boys club' where the positions of leadership are shared by the members of the club, and its a classic merry go round every two years as the positions are shuffled. It's essentially the same wine in a new bottle. The promotions and recognition is rarely on merit, and tends to be bestowed upon the 'favourites' who play along with management. The appraisal and review system is a complete joke, its an open fact that managers are told how many should be rated Solid or poor in advance and a story is spun around to make the allocations. This often leaves a bad taste and experience for the employees who have contributed well, but rated poor due to predetermined criteria.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful that IBM is the people and their collective intellect. Review the remuneration and promotion processes, to continue the brand IBM into the next generation by retaining good talent. Conduct a complete, honest review of the competency of 1st and 2nd line managers and overhaul the system to weed out the managers with no people skills and business acumen. Finally remember a "General should command respect not demand respect from the troops".

    Pros

Technical breadth and global reach. Multiple divisions covering all aspects of IT; including Consulting, Services, Software and Hardware.

    Cons

Appear to be off shoring everything they can, cheapest delivery point appears to be only consideration.

    Advice to Management

Your people are your greatest asset invest in them and return their loyalty.
