I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Global organization with big focus on emerging markets. On leading edge in many respects especially with Watson. Focus on social business and collaboration. Many opportunities for assignments. Just takes time to make that happen

Cons

Huge company, easier to get lost, hard to navigate, very slow to move. Sales and number driven perhaps at expense of innovation. Hard to navigate at first. Not always open to new and different ideas

Advice to Management

Break up into smaller companies

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really wish I had some... I have been around IT for decades and used to really respect IBM... they have lost their way and I dont think they can recover.

    Cons

    Horrible leadership
    Micromanagement
    Horrible hiring practices
    Unskilled and untrainable personnel
Little to no promotion or raise potential
Dubuque site is just an slave labor sweat shop
High burnout and stress with no help or care from management
Good talent is constantly pushed away while the horrible people are promoted and allowed to keep doing a horrible job.

    Advice to Management

    Get your heads on straight
Listen to your "go-to" people, you know the ones you are working to death
    Fire the dead weight
Stop hiring idiots that you think can be trained
Actually follow IBMs values... and allow your intelligent employee to actually "THINK". Instead of laying off the people that can actually help you succeed... listen to them, they arent just complaining.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great name to have on a resume.

    Cons

Consultants are only viewed as billable seat with no real opportunities to develop. There's a great disconnect between the marketing pitch and the reality of how IBMers are treated.

    Advice to Management

Stop what you're doing. It not working.
