I worked at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

There is a global work force and you get to meet people from other countries. Working from home is possible. Lots of custom tools and local support. You get to share an office with another employee in your team. You are not micro-managed and you might meet with your manager once a month.

Cons

No real support for Hardware development from the CEO. Open source of the Power Architecture to anyone shows that IBM is looking for someone else to build the hardware and IBM can just be a software company.

Advice to Management

you need to listen to your technical advisers on what will be the leading trend in the future. You totally missed out on the open source Linux.

I have been working at IBM full-time

    Pros

Once was a great company. Great benefits, good base salary - lousy commission structure for quota compared to similar companies.

    Cons

Lack of leadership from director level through senior manager. Didn't provide the right resources for on boarding and learning the company environment. All system training was via WebEx (as everyone is remote) so no on-site training with peers and real world examples. Everyone has been there way too long and the culture of old - is still being disseminated. Hiring manager told me quota was x and second half it was 100% increase. That is one way to limit the income potential of a top seller at IBM. Raise the quota that wasn't to be raised by a ridiculous amount.

    Advice to Management

Stop shedding good people and go back to a time when it meant something to work at IBM. I hope Ginni reads this and understands. I don't believe this is the kind of company she envisioned.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

made some pretty good friends there. Opportunities for new hires fresh out of college. Ok benefits. Ok training. Can be good opportunity once you reach management level.

    Cons

No room for advancement at their call centers. Your future depends on your manager's acceptance of you. Lack of employee moral.

    Advice to Management

train your employees to be Great!
