Pros

Great learning ground...if you can unearth the offerings. Varied projects, self determination.

Cons

Travel can be an issue. Certain groups are not cohesive in strategy. It's who you know that determines success and many languish in bands without promotions or increases for years. Can be frustrating.

Advice to Management

Many good consultants and managers lost due to myopic focus on bottom line and not investments in people.

I worked at IBM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

IBM is a great company, that provides top corporate benefits. Very flexible with work/life balance, vacation, etc. Working here will give you exposure to top solutions and innovations in industry

    Cons

Typically the pay scale/earning potential is lower here compared to smaller technology companies. In addition, this environment creates complacency with the employee. If they don't believe they will be rewarded then why go the extra mile. In addition, large company that is changing direction in changing industry means regular resource actions resulting in many lay-offs. Lay-offs happen that are not always based on Job Performance

    Advice to Management

Keep in touch with the employees concerns. Change pay structure to be more aggressive even if it means reducing the employee benefits.

I have been working at IBM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

great talented colleagues, state of the art technology, regular interaction with colleagues within the industry through partnerships and business client relationships. Great life Balance promotion, flexible schedule

    Cons

Poor communication from upper management, we depend on rumours, news paper reportings etc whereas if upper management was upfront with us most of us would understand that as a business certain decisions have to be made.

    Advice to Management

better incentive required to keep top employees motivated (promotions, salary increase)
