I have been working at ICON full-time

Pros

Location is good if you like space, and housing is affordable in centrall ny. Benefits include medical, dental, life, disability and a 401k with up to 3% match! The job offers an opportunity to do cutting edge analytical work using lc-msms or Elisa immunoassays on clinical/animal drug study samples. Interesting work. Professional job.

Cons

Staff lacks diversity: white, from the area, and knowing only what they were told from working there. Almost military in management structure, with top-down communication only. Part of this is due to FDA regulations but part is just the culture there. Worker and manager Frustration is very high and work load is unrelenting. Often have to put work ahead of own needs like eating, urinating, going home for the night. Unless you fit in, have allies to help out, and have good self-confidence, you won't make it. HR and Safety management are disgraceful. Hard making a profit in this service industry.

Advice to Management

Profit-sharing is the only good motivation in times of over-work. Too bad you took it away.

I have been working at ICON full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits -- the health insurance offered is very good and low cost to employees. The people who work for ICON are smart and very hard working. You'll make some great connections for future job opportunities (because the turnover at ICON is very high).

    Cons

Employees are over-allocated, underpaid, and under appreciated. If you enjoy working your ass off, working long hours, and struggling to meet timelines because of a lack of resources, only to have it go unnoticed, then ICON is the place for you. There is no career development here, unless you know how to work the system or are lucky and assigned to studies where you are given opportunities. It's hard working in the same position for years with no guarantee that you'll ever get anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they're worth! Work on your resourcing! Enhance career development and give people a reason to stay.
