"Good company to work for"

I worked at IDC (International Data Corporation) as an intern

Pros

relaxing working environment, has a good coffee machine and plenty of refreshment to enjoy when you are tired, nice people around you. The company also offers many chances to learn new software and skills. A good place to really learn something.

Cons

a lot of data work, which is kinda boring (meaningful though), welfare is average, really need to improve conditions of computers, some of the computers are really old and slow. I would suggest a better wireless internet router, since the Internet condition is not very good in the company

Advice to Management

Pretty good

I worked at IDC (International Data Corporation) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Early access to responsibility, business development, and management opportunities.

    Cons

For a private business, very bottom-line oriented. Often results in employee and research group cuts before full chance to bloom...very quick hook.

    Advice to Management

Company seen as great place for first 5 years and last 5 years of career. Middle prime years are better spent elsewhere due to salary ceilings and very conservative management nature.

I have been working at IDC (International Data Corporation) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You learn domain expertise, you learn from your very intelligent colleagues, you learn from leaders in the IT field about current and future technologies. And you are able to use your knowledge in a variety of ways, whether it's through writing documents, creating forecasts, or working on a Tracker service.

On the personnel side, the benefits are ok -- not great, not terrible. However, most managers/directors/VPs take IDC's work/life balance pretty seriously and support their staff in achieving and maintaining a good balance.

Managers/directors/VPs also usually take an interest in their employees' career paths, and do what they can to encourage them both to succeed at IDC and to achieve their personal career goals.

    Cons

Salary isn't on par with the rest of the industry, so you do the same amount of work for less cash.

If you're in research and not working exclusively on a Tracker, expect to travel, although the amount you travel will vary depending on how much demand there is for you by clients.

If you're a minority or a woman, don't expect to ever achieve upper echelon status here: it's not going to happen.

The majority of women working for IDC in its WW HQ are at lower level positions in research or in administrative and support roles. Only in the marketing organization do women have parity with their male counterparts.

And if you're a minority or immigrant and not East Asian or Central Asian, you're out of luck: in the US, African American employees represent a fraction of a percent of total employees, and other minorities are even less visible except in low level support roles.

    Advice to Management

Could we please see some diversity in the leadership roles at the highest level?
