I worked at IFC full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The people are diverse, smart, and care about development. This will be the most diverse place you will ever work in. Work-life balance is amazing and the travel opportunities are plentiful. You will gain exposure to some very interesting projects and learn a lot about different issues in the financing of development should you wish to.

Lots of bureaucracy, which can be difficult for some to handle. Also, upward mobility is somewhat limited and slow. There is a push to globalize the

    Pros

    - Very international staff
    - Plenty of opportunities to learn
    - Most people are very passionate about the mission
    - Feel like you are making a difference
    - If you look for them, there a plenty of opportunities to travel.
    - Great work/life balance for lower level staff.

    Cons

    - Bureaucratic
    - Difficult to get a promotion
    - Compensation
    - Tends to keep consultants out of the regular culture, but I feel this is pretty typical

    Advice to Management

    Don't just concentrate on the numbers, also concentrate on the quality of deals.

    Culture- very diverse
    Good salary if you include mobility premium

    Very messy promotion system
    Difficult to become manager
    Not easy to move to other departments if not in Investment Operations
