No opinion of CEO

Pros

Decent work, life balance. Good benefits and decent salary. My team mates are good people. We work hard and get the job done.

Cons

Upper management is the problem. They have no clue of what it is that we do and ask things of us that prove it. Engineers that write the code for the software have no respect for other departments that depend on their output.

Advice to Management

Shake up the code writers and hold them to deadlines so the rest of us can do our jobs and not rush out a crap product.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

The pay scale was good. In addition they had profit sharing, stock options and 401K contributions. Initially the work environment was good. There was flexibility.

    Cons

They hired some middle and senior management who were laid off from Sun. These people changed the casual fun culture that existed to a more paper pushing bureaucratic DMV-like culture that SUN is famous for.

    Advice to Management

The work culture, in San Francisco at least, is open and flexible. This fosters creativity and gives you more bang for your bucks than a rigid structure would allow. Something that is acceptable in Reno does not necessarily have to work in SF. Take a look at the way successful companies operate - like Google or even Netflix. See how much flexibility they give to their employees. Try to emulate that instead of bringing in the culture of failed companies like Sun.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

IGT does have decent benefits packages and a good amount of vacation time (starting with 3 weeks of time off with +1 week after 5 years) as well as 7+ company holiday days. Salaries aren't horrible but they are not good either.

    Cons

Absolutely no opportunity for career advancement. The salary you negotiate is basically what you will make for the remainder of your career. Most senior management is completely incompetent. Horrible employee retention rate.

    Advice to Management

Cut the fat and eliminate most of the middle and senior management. Provide some way for employees to advance and make a career of working at IGT. Running engineering with the same mindset as running a manufacturing plant is a recipe for failure.
