I have been working at IKEA part-time (More than a year)

Pros

-Work with awesome people and make great friends
-Pretty decent pay
-Benefits even if you are part time

Cons

Management definitely plays favorites. Being an hourly co worker isn't so great after you have been there for a while. There is no hope in moving up in the company unless you suck up to the right people. If you suck up, you can get away with whatever you want and that isn't far to all the other hard working coworkers. Management also likes to make crazy rules that don't make any sense.

Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites. There is a reason certain departments have high turn over rates. Step back and think about what you are doing to contribute to that turn over. Making crazy rules that don't make sense or upset your coworkers might just be what is making them want to quit.

    Pros

Coworkers are sometimes friendly. The store layout allows for a way or keeping active.

    Cons

    Horrible pay
    Bad work hours
    Inability to change departments

    Advice to Management

Have coworkers fill out anonymous opinions on what can be changed, improved or added. A lot of people don't speak up in fear of losing their jobs. They stand it because of the benefits and sense or community and belonging.

    Pros

IKEA strives hard to maintain their best co-workers for years to come.

    Cons

There are ongoing opportunities to deal with difficult customers.

    Advice to Management

When visiting stores, senior corporate management should ask co-workers how to better increase sales in their departments; assess their suggestions; implement those ideas on a pilot basis; then expand that business practice nationwide.
